In June 2005, Joyce Garibay found what she was looking for and so did Dr. Snell Fontus – each other.  Joyce was looking for a part-time position in the medical field and Dr. Fontus an experienced Certified Medical Assistant with strong medical and secretarial credentials for his office practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

Portland born and Salem raised, she is a 1967 U of O graduate and a Eugene resident since 1963.  Joyce brought all of what Dr. Fontus needed and more.  From 1990 to 2003 Joyce had been Medical Office Assistant Program Coordinator and a Cooperative Education Coordinator at Lane Community College (LCC).  From 1988 to 1990 Joyce was Executive Secretary/Administrator at Lane Individual Practice Association.

 

While still a member of the LCC Medical Office Assistant Advisory Committee and an active volunteer with Lane Chapter, Oregon Society and the American Medical Association of Assistants, Joyce is pleased with part –time employment.  At least one day each week, she provides child care for and enjoys spending time with two of their great-grandsons.

 

Joyce is an avid reader, knits scarves and sweaters for children that are distributed through Guidepost magazine to orphanages around the world and is a member of Eugene Christian Fellowship where she coordinates the delivery of snacks to emergency department and intensive care unit personnel at the three Eugene and Springfield hospitals on Tuesdays.  Joyce is married, since 1983, to Rafael “Gabby” Garibay.  Rafael is the former owner/operator of Garibay Heating & Air Conditioning, and now plays softball in the senior league and drives a courtesy van for a local car dealership two days a week.  They enjoy extended-family camping and riding their ATVs in both the mountains and sand dunes.

 

In the office, Joyce schedules appointments, files, handles insurance referrals and prior authorizations, and assists Dr. Fontus on various in-office medical procedures.  And following in the footsteps of Martha Anderson, who had been with Dr. Fontus since the practice opened in 1998, Joyce will answer your questions and render all the assistance you need.
